In Casablanca: start with your driving habits
For a stay involving several city trips, ask yourself a simple question: are you comfortable using a clutch and changing gears repeatedly? If you only drive an automatic at home, keep that preference in your request. Arriving in an unfamiliar city is not the best time to learn a different transmission.
An automatic gearbox does not settle every comfort question. Vehicle dimensions also matter for manoeuvring and parking. A compact car may fit your plans better than a larger model, even when both are automatic.
For a trip around Morocco: look beyond the gearbox
If your itinerary connects Casablanca with other cities, share your stops and passenger count. For longer driving days, compare the driving position, cabin space and boot. Choosing automatic or manual alone does not tell you whether a car suits your trip.
Do not assume an SUV has four-wheel drive or that off-road use is permitted. If your route includes tracks or unusual access roads, describe them to the agency and confirm vehicle suitability and contractual conditions before booking.
Automatic or manual: how should you compare prices?
There is no universal surcharge to apply to an automatic gearbox. Ask for two quotes with the same dates, times, pick-up and return locations. Compare cars with similar capacity; otherwise, the difference may reflect the vehicle category rather than the transmission.
Check the total in MAD for the full rental, included services, any delivery charges, mileage allowance and extras. Check the deposit and its terms separately rather than confusing it with the rental price. Transmission preference alone does not establish fuel consumption either; that also depends on the vehicle and how it is used.
